Our 7 Pure Promise Initiatives

The three host nations have committed to action in seven areas to make EHF EURO 2026 more sustainable.

    Water

    1.1 Reusable water bottles and tap water for all players, volunteers, staff, delegates and the press
    1.1.1 Tetrapak water containers instead of plastic where contained water is absolutely required
    1.1.2 Water stations with cool water for all players, volunteers, staff, delegates and the press using reusable water bottles
    1.2 We use environmentally certified chemical products in hotels and arenas
    1.3 Campaign focusing on clean drinking water, healthy water environment and the use or circle of water – for SoMe, as information, through the mascot, as educational material, in the press, as a donation and as fan engagement

    Food and Beverages

    2.1 Deposit collection in arenas
    2.2 Menus with less climate impact and plant based alternatives in arenas
    2.2.1 On site communication about considerations in choosing foods and menus
    2.3 Taking measures to minimize food waste in hotels and arenas
    2.4 No single-use plastics for packaging, cups and cutlery (fanzone and arenas)

    Transportation

    3.1 Driving all electrical vehicles and focusing on effective transportation for event and delegate transportation
    3.2 More sustainable team transportation by collective transportation or buses driving on more sustainable fuel
    3.3 Better use of and info about shuttlebus and collective transportation options for especially international fans
    3.4 Campaign focusing on ridesharing, carsharing and collective transportation options and motivate fans to choosing sustainable ways of transport

    Reuse and Recycling

    4.1 Considering and sourcing different more sustainable options when buying new materials and objects (e.g. venue dressing, wayfinding, clothing, equipment)
    4.1.1 Considering if year and specific logo is necessary on products in order to be able to reuse as much venue dressing and wayfinding as possible for 2028
    4.2 Recycling of as many materials as possible and agreement with partners before the event (e.g. venue dressing, wayfinding, clothing, equipment)
    4.3 Motivate more nations to choose not to bring the optional third jersey
    4.4 High quality clothes and reuse of clothes for OC members, delegates and volunteers
    4.5 Use of recycled materials to build temporary structures or reuse of already existing materials and structures

    Waste

    5.1 Better waste sorting including obtaining information about all possible waste types and amounts to choose correct waste fractions and capacity in hotels and arenas
    5.2 Making agreements about hand outs etc. with commercial partners including taking care of products after activation activities
    5.3 Campaign focusing on getting the fans to clean up their own waste, the ‘waste culture’ and info about sorting

    Fan Engagement

    6.1 Motivating and engaging fans in initiatives under the headlines of (1) Water, (2) Food and beverages, (3) Transportation, (4) Reuse and recycling and (5) Waste
    6.2 Mini-guide to the responsible fan spread via e-mail, social media and a landing page
    6.3 Area in the fanzone with games, competitions, education and data collection under the theme of sustainability
    6.4 Educational material and engagement of schools, kids and fans about sustainability in line with the sustainability concept
    6.5 Campaign on social media about sustainability within the sustainability concept

    7.1 Data collection to inform an emission report
